Designed as a seamless extension to the existing campus, this intervention strengthens accessibility, connectivity, and inclusive learning while respecting the character of the established buildings. The project introduces a universally accessible circulation system that links multiple facilities into a cohesive campus experience without disrupting day-to-day activities.
The ground-floor intervention is anchored by a barrier-free access ramp that connects the parking area directly to the main academic block. Designed for ease of movement, the ramp accommodates wheelchair users, students with mobility challenges, caregivers, and staff, ensuring safe and intuitive access throughout the campus.
At the first-floor level, a continuous elevated corridor forms the primary circulation spine, connecting all existing buildings across the campus. This intervention transforms previously disconnected blocks into a unified network, improving movement, supervision, and accessibility while encouraging interaction between different learning spaces.
A defining architectural feature is the series of vibrant vertical louvers that protect the access ramp. Beyond providing shade and weather protection, the colourful façade creates an engaging sensory experience for children with developmental disabilities, bringing identity and warmth to an otherwise functional circulation element. The filtered daylight cast through the louvers creates changing patterns of light and colour that enrich the journey through the campus.
The design also reimagines the existing courtyard as a shaded communal space centred around the mature tree retained on site. Rather than removing this natural asset, the intervention celebrates it, creating a comfortable outdoor setting where students, therapists, caregivers, and visitors can gather, rest, and interact within a calm, protected environment.
By combining universal accessibility, thoughtful circulation planning, and a child-centric architectural language, the project enhances the campus while reinforcing the institution's commitment to creating an inclusive environment for every user.
